When i first time won a Best in Directing Award, it really boost my confidence because i did not expect to win in our Ensemble Acting(ABAKADA) last August of 2006, during our Communication's Week(Linggo ng Wika). Honestly, i fear a failure because for me, it is very painful since I was the one who voluntarily nominated my self as the Director of that Ensemble Acting. The blame for a defeat would automatically be credited under my supervisions since normally, the success and failure of a play is usually be under the directors credit.
I was amazed with the other section's concepts and idea. I also got intimidated knowing that it would be Euvic, the legacy holder for Leadership(while i am neither a good member of a group myself), would be my opponent in the directors position. He is known for his brilliant ideas and his superior capacity to lead a crowd while i am no one at all(just a stubborn boy).
But I was really overwhelmed upon hearing the judges decisions in favor of our class production. It is very amazing to know that i as a director won the Best Direction Award. We also won the Best Production(the most Major award) together with some other awards like Best Actor and Best Props.
With my victory, i now gained a much greater confidence on handling my classmates. On our next activity which is the Drama Fest( the most prestigious of all annual celebrations), I again volunteered to be once again the director of the play. I was hoping for a win again although i was not expecting.
Beyond my expectations was that their story was indeed better than ours in terms of story substances, consistency, professionalisms and composition( not just my opinion but also the judges'). So to cope up with this deficiency, i need to work hard on the characterizations of my casts as well as the actions they are to act on stage. Because of their advantage on the quality story, it is much easier for their actors and actresses to emote. But i did tell my casts not to be intimidated with their unfavored condition, instead, to work out harder on their roles and extract the best of their abilities.
To my surprise as i was looking at the play as is progresses, i was impressed with my creation. I saw how my efforts(was there?) paid off. But it was no enough to forget about my fear of loosing.
After the two plays were already presented, the moment of truth had come. The judges is about to say who won as the Best Director. Few seconds before the announcement, i heard the audiences murmur my name and some eve shout “bulag”(the title of our play which i direct). That brought more hopes for me. But before i was able to take a gulp, heard my name being announced...I won!!! so i immediately stood up and walk towards the stage( stopping my feet from running due to my intense excitement). I was as proud as a man when i received the certificate.
Imagine, things really happen even those with the least possibilities. So expect the UNEXPECTED!!!
